Finished in Port Wood Port Casks.
The traditional crafts of malt whisky making still flourish at The Balvenie Distillery.
The Balvenie Distillery has been owned and managed by the same independent family company for FIVE GENERATIONS. Nowhere else will you find a distillery that still frows its own barley, still MALTS in its own traditional floor maltings and still employs a TEAM OF COOPERS to tend all the casks and a COPPERSMITH to maintain the stills.
The fifth rare craft is that of Malt Master, David Stewart. Over fifty years of experience enables him to SKILFULLY use different types of cask and different ages of spirit to craft The Balvenie range of single malts. Each expression has a distinctive taste, but all share a rich, honeyed character.
In the making of The Balvenie Port Wood, Our Malt Master carefully selects rare reserves of Balvenie and transfers them to port casks for a further few months of maturation.
The first period of maturation over more than two decades mellows the spirit and builds character.
The Second cask ageing is at the heart of The Balvenie Port Wood and produces a single malt of remarkable complexity.
A perfume of ripe raisin notes and fruit skins is backed by a dryness with hints of almonds and walnuts. To taste it is silky, with fruit, syrupy honey sweetness, leather oak tannins and notes of ginger and cinnamon. Its finish is long, gentle and nutty.
