The Kilchoman 100% Islay yearly releases are always anticipated, as they are the only whisky that is the only Scotch whisky that is a single farm, single origin malt. This means Kilchoman grow the barley in their own fields at the distillery, distill and bottle the this whisky all 100% on-site, an impressive feat.
This is the 10th edition release for 2020 which was distilled from 2007, 2009 and 2010 barley harvests. Matured in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks for a minimum of 9 years, this is always a little taste of Islay in a glass.
The 100% Islay range is peated to a lower level of roughly 20ppm though this is not an exact measurement given the small batches and old-style techniques make it almost impossible to peat each batch to exactly the same level.
