Some time ago, our Director of Whisky Creation, Dr Bill, found himself musing over how some of his most joyful memories came from cake — from the pineapple upside down cake his daughter made for his birthday to baking with his Granny in her kitchen. He devised this whisky to conjure the magic of a cake moment, finishing his favourite Glenmorangie Single Malt in the finest Tokaji dessert wine casks.
Style Single Malt Whisky.

Distillery Glenmorangie.
Country Scotland.
Region Highland.
Chill Filtered No.
Closure Cork.
Colour/Appearance Rich Copper
Complex, rich and multi-layered, with a burst of passion fruit, peach, pear, mango. More savoury notes like baking bread, gentle sappy oak and a curious, flinty minerality emerge. This is then followed by classic Glenmorangie notes like honeycomb, vanilla and almond, with a hint of milk chocolate. With a splash of water, more zesty notes emerge, like apricot, elderflower, flowering currents, honey pollen and peach syrup.
The mouthfeel is surprisingly luscious and tart at the same time, leading into a burst of sweet, cake-like – honey, white chocolate, apricot, almond, vanilla and pear. This is balanced by a hint of tangy orange and menthol, both classic Glenmorangie flavours.
The lingering aftertaste again reminds you of a delicious combination of honeycomb, chocolate almond and pecan nuts.

Glenmorangie has created a new limited-edition whisky which captures the joy of the perfect slice of cake in a glass. And for the icing on the you-know-what, Glenmorangie has teamed up with pastry maestro Dominique Ansel to create a whole series of cocktail and cake pairings, starring four delicious single malts – and an extra slice of fun.

This limited-edition style has been aged in casks formerly used for dessert wine, which impart a joyous, surprising and deliciously sweet character to Glenmorangie whisky.

Like baking, whisky-making is an exact science, but at Glenmorangie the distilling team isn’t afraid to get creative, and a little playful. For Glenmorangie Tale of Cake, Dr Bill Lumsden and his team aged the whisky first in barrels once used for bourbon and finished it in former Hungarian Tokaji wine casks, creating a sweeter finish with fruitier, honeyed notes.

The liquid is a rich copper, but the taste is pure technicolour, luscious, sweet and complex with multi-layered bursts of honey, white chocolate and fruits with a lilting hint of mint. As you might expect, it tastes incredible when enjoyed with actual cake.
